Below is a simplified outline of the ChFEBC℠ course and the requirements to become certified.

A new applicant for the ChFEBC℠ designation must meet the following criteria:

3 years of financial services experience

AND

State Insurance License

AND - Hold one of the following Securities Licenses:

Series 6
Series 66
Series 7
Series 24

Or be registered as a Registered Investment Advisor or an Investment Advisor Representative

If an applicant does not meet the criteria above there is an alternative way to qualify.

In addition to 3 years of financial services experience, candidate must hold one of the following:
 
Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®)
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®)
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®)
Masters Degree in Business, Finance or Economics
Attorney's License (JD)

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)


If you are in a Human Resources capacity, with the Federal Government, you may obtain the designation without meeting the requirements above.

Continuing Education Requirements

10 hours of required Continuing Education credits every two years.
Acceptable CE credits will come from CE courses that are created by Snow Federal Seminars & ChFEBC℠, Inc. or course approved by the Certified Financial Planning® Board of Standards

The course provides you with comprehensive training on federal employee benefits plus marketing and sales training materials to help you prospect and close sales to federal and postal employees.

BRIEF COURSE OUTLINE

A. Federal Employee Benefits

Module I: CSRS/CSRS offset Sections

Module II: FERS and CSRS Transferees

Module III: Special Provisions FERS (law enforcement, fire fighters, air traffic controllers, reservists)

Module IV: Federal Employee Group Life Insurance (FEGLI), Thrift Savings Plan (a 401k-type plan)

Module V: Social Security

Other modules include additional information on federal employee benefits.

B. Sales Training
Includes video, training on benefits calculator software, case analysis, fact finding training with the federal employees, role playing, coverage of important federal employee benefits forms,

C: Marketing Manual
Includes information on how to market to federal employees, including specifics on ethics issues in government agencies.

D: Final Exam
Once you have completed the modules and tests from each module, you can notify Federal Seminars & ChFEBC℠ , Inc., for instructions for taking your final exam. This is a rigorous closed-book exam that you must complete in 90 minutes. If you receive an 75% or above grade, you will then become “certified” and be able to use the ChFEBC℠ logo on your business cards, brochures, web site, or other promotional materials.

Yearly re-certification:
Federal Benefits change on a yearly (calendar year) basis, so re-certification, if desired, is based on a calendar year.
